Research integrity

The University of Western Australia adopts the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (ACRCR 2018) as our guide to an honest, ethical and conscientious research culture. This code replaces the previous, 2007 code of the same name. The University is moving to the complete adoption of the ACRCR 2018 by mid-2019.

The primary responsibility for ensuring the integrity of research lies with individual researchers and institutions. ACRAR sets out principles and responsibilities that both researchers and institutions are expected to follow when conducting research.

The ACRAR is accompanied by several Better Practice Guides that provide detailed guidance on:

The University has established a team of Research Integrity Advisors (RIAs) to assist researchers, including research students, in conducting research with integrity and advise in resolving difficulties that arise when doing research.

RIAs can help you to understand how to obtain ethical review, publication and dissemination of research findings, authorship, conflicts of interest, and management of research data and primary materials. Research Integrity Advisors can also advise about questionable research practices and the process of making an allegation of a breach of the codes of ethics and conduct. Contact details appear below, or see the poster available in most schools and centres.
