Use of animal tissues or cadaver

In certain instances where animals are obtained as cadavers or where only animal tissue or samples are obtained from third parties (e.g. samples from abbattoir, animal tissue derived from other AEC approved projects and where no trapping or handling of any live animals has occurred to obtain the tissue samples or cadaver, a full AEC application may not be required. UWA staff and students are required to submit a Notification of Use of Animal Tissue or Cadaver to [email protected] .

If the tissue is derived from bio-banked stock collected as part of a past scientific project, which has since closed, or from a non-current commercial activity, exemption from a full AEC application to use the tissue may also be granted. In all circumstances it is strongly recommended you contact the Animal Ethics Office for determination as to whether you will be apply to apply for exemption for work being considered.
