UWA Researchers' Association (UWARA)
What is the UWA Researcher's
Association?
The UWA Researcher's Association started as a small, informal
network of Research Staff who came together as a result of an
intitiative arising out of the recommendations of the 2000 UWA
Lake Report on Research Staff. Following a university-wide
meeting of Research Staff early in 2001, this small network began
working together to improve the visibility of research staff
within the University community, and to enhance their work
environment and conditions of employment.
In 2004, the network was formalised as the UWA Researcher's
Association, an association for all Research Staff at UWA. The
launch and inaugural meeting of the UWA Researcher's Association
was held on 23 Sept 2004. Attendence was high, with some 100
staff attending. At the inaugural meeting, office bearers were
elected: President - Sarah Dunlop; Vice president - Vera Morgan;
Treasurer - Stuart Hodgetts; Sectretary - Jackie Kent; Committee
members - Anne Barden, Trevor Mori, Alec Redwood.
The background and aims
of the Association were described by A/Prof Sarah Dunlop at the
launch and a copy of her Powerfile file may be downloaded here:

UWA "Research Expertise"
database
Make sure you are on the UWA "Research Expertise" database:
http://directory.uwa.edu.au/specialists/
The database is updated via an annual call to schools for input
however individual updates can be done by the Publications Unit
as and when required - eg when new people start. The Manager of
Publications has advised that emails requesting additions can be
sent to sarah.heinzman@uwa.edu.au
. Note: People need to ensure they are in the UWA Directory first
- http://directory.uwa.edu.au/ -
The entry needs to give their name and then concisely list 4 or 5
areas of research expertise in alphabetical order.
Community of Science (COS) Research DatabasesCommunity
of Science (COS) Research Databases
COS offers:
- A global funding opportunities database
- A funding alert email service
- Individual expertise profiles:
- you can create one for yourself and use it to generate
a CV that can be accessed by others world-wide
- any-one world-wide with COS access can search the
expertise profiles using keyword searches
Many UWA staff will have a COS profile already. If you do
not, you are encouraged to establish one. Alternatively, you
may wish to refine your profile, add new keywords, publications
etc. Further information on COS, including instructions, can be
found at: http://www.uwa.edu.au/page/15629.
