UWA has determined a number of strategic research areas in consultation with key stakeholders.

• Fundamental biomedical and translational approaches to health
• Indigenous knowledge
• Bio-engineering and Bio-imaging
• Neurosciences, including psychology

These strategic outcome areas are important because:

• Alignment with national research and national innovation priorities and State goals and priority areas allows UWA to seek funding.
• UWA is a major research contributor to our resource, agricultural, medical and health sectors.
• Many federal funding schemes will require UWA to justify its applications by reference to its areas of strength.
