Animal care facilities

A focus on research of an international quality and the fostering of an outstanding research culture have positioned UWA as one of the best universities in Australia and in the top 150 in the world.

The animal care facilities at UWA are responsible for the daily care, husbandry and agistment of all animals. 

UWA's animal care facilities are managed by Animal Care Services, which is responsible for project management, compliance, and specialist animal services including surgical support, tissue and material collection and analysis.

Services

We provide state-of-the-art high containment quarantine, PC2 and PC3 facilities for small laboratory animal research facilitate housing and management of large animal and selected native animal species.

Costs

Agistment charges apply to animal care activities; service costs are also cost recovered. There are two basic sets of charges:

  • The agistment charge is for the weekly food and consumable items required for the care of the animal. 
  • If there are additional charges such as for the use of specialist rooms or equipment or additional staff time, this will be discussed and agreed by you prior to submission of the application for approval to the Animal Ethics Committee.
