Newsletter
This newsletter aims to provide relevant and informative notes regarding the various activities of UWAs Animal Care Services.
Animal Care Services provides a range of animal housing environments and research facilities to provide support for teaching, biological and biomedical research projects.
We are responsible for project management, compliance, and specialist animal services including surgical support, tissue and material collection and analysis. We also:
- assist in the development of research projects by liaising with external agencies and ensure all necessary compliance and regulatory issues are properly addressed
- provide a point of reference and information for multi-faceted research programs.
Our policies are for the benefit for staff and users of the facilities, and for the welfare and care of the animals.
Services
Our animal care facilities are responsible for the daily care, husbandry and agistment of all animals. There are seven contained facilities with over 35 staff members responsible for the care of the research and teaching animals. Through our animal care facilities we:
- provide state-of-the-art, high-containment quarantine, PC2, PC3 facilities for small laboratory animal research
- facilitate housing and management of large animal and selected native animal species.
Our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) ensure quality assurance.
